Network morphology and neuron-glia relationships of 20 days old hippocampal cells cultured on a cysteine terminated engulfment-promoting peptide (EPP). Confocal image of immunocytochemical staining of neurons with neuronal marker NF (green), of glial cells with GFAP marker (blue), counterstained with nuclear marker DAPI (red). Hippocampal cells grown on the EPP cluster to form large aggregates in which the glia cells form a sheet in contact with the substrate and the neurons grow on top. Cells in different aggregates interconnect by thick fascicles emanating from clusters and projecting to adjacent aggregates.
